So what does a dental hygienist do:
- Evaluate and assess your gums, supporting structures and your teeth.
- Review your medical history and x-ray results.
- Perform oral screening for abnormal lesions, including head and neck examination.
- Perform scaling and polishing of teeth.
- Guide you through individualised treatment and follow up to ensure your teeth and gums stay in great shape between appointments.
- Offer dietary advice, particularly pertaining to dental disease.
- Application of preventive agents to teeth and gums (e.g. fluorides) to prevent decay and gum disease.
